Trust House is a non-profit organization serving people in crisis in the Roanoke Valley. Our mission is to provide stabilization and growth to homeless individuals and families in crisis.

We provide emergency and transitional housing to homeless individuals and families with emphasis on case management, life skills education and financial idependence.

These services are provided in a safe, confidential and home-structured environment where people can recover from crises, move toward greater self-sufficiency and move on to permanent housing.

The core values of Trust House are:

  • Confidentiality
  • Safety
  • Personal Responsibility
  • Self-Sufficiency

Trust House aims to honor all people where they are, explore their possibilities for growth, and support them on their way back to independence.

Understand Who the Homeless Are

Shelter
Single residents live 3-4 to a bedroom. Families are housed in their own rooms. Residents share kitchens, baths, living rooms, laundry and lounge areas. Residents are responsible for their own cooking; Trust House residents may visit our food pantry if they need assistance with groceries.

Case Management
Trust House residents meet at least once per week with a Case Manager. The Case Manager assists residents in development of goal for their stay at Trust House. The Case Manager also provides residents with referral information for services Trust House cannot provide.

Skills Development for Self-Sufficiency
Trust House offers programming that aims to make residents more successful at maintaining self-sufficiency. Skills Development programming is offered each Thursday evening. Skills Development programming addresses; health, income development, job skills, education, housing and financial literacy.

Credit Remediation, Budgeting and Savings
Residents at Trust House are assisted in obtaining a credit report and developing a strategy to improve credit scores. Two household budgets are developed. One budget anticpates expenses while at Trust House; the other anticipates expenses after a resident has obtained permanent housing. Residents are asked to save 60% of take home pay after their first thirty days. Households are encouraged to develop a savings goal that considers; rent, security deposits, utility deposits, pantry expense, moving costs and rainy day savings.

Trust House is an emergency and transitional housing program that encourages growth and change for homeless individuals and families.

Trust House believes that as people are supported and taught life skills, they become self-sufficient and can leave the cycle of homelessness and crisis. Most Trust House participants move into long term or permanent housing.

Our case management team provides one-to-one guidance; makes referrals to community resources; and, works with residents to develop action plans that lead to independence. Our end goal is permanent housing. However, meeting the objectives of training people in life skills and linking participants with services ensure that residents are prepared to live independently once permanent housing is found.

Trust House accepts calls for referrals until 12:00 noon and after 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Calls are accepted all day and night on Saturday and Sunday.
